Key issues:
- An offshore oil port has three SPMs (Single Point Moorings) for unloading crude oil tankers. The SPMs are situated in water of 35 m and connected with underwater pipes to a floating marine terminal which pumps the oil to the onshore booster station from where it is pumped to the salt dome storage scheme.
- Determine effects of the ambient temperature.
- Analyse Heat conduction and thermal inertia of the pipe walls.
- Ensure Pumping requirements are met and stay within acceptable ranges.
- Various scenario studies.
Methodology:
- Simulate various crude oil offload temperatures with heat transfer.
Solution:
- Trough testing various scenarios and offload temperatures, pumping requirements can be met and ensured to stay in a safe operating envelope.
